Study: CBD Helps Heal Bone Fractures

Pass it on:

Can CBD really help heal bone fractures? Is there anything that CBD doesn’t heal? Well, since most diseases and ailment stem from some sort of inflammation, then yes, if applied correctly, then CBD may have more healing effects than not doing anything at all. In fact, there are multiple scientific studies done proving the potential benefits of cannabidiol. In 2015, a group of researchers from Tel Aviv University and Hebrew University concluded that:

According to the research, the administration of the non-psychotropic component cannabinoid cannabidiol (CBD) significantly helps heal bone fractures. The study, conducted on rats with mid-femoral fractures, found that CBD — even when isolated from tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the major psychoactive component of cannabis — markedly enhanced the healing process of the femora after just eight weeks.

How Does CBD Help With Bone Breaks and Bone Fractures

This amazing team in Israel discovered that cannabinoid receptors in our bodies magically stimulate bone formation and at the same time inhibit bone loss. That is fascinating and another reason that we need rules and regulations for the CBD industry. So, these findings are not just good for people with fractured or broken bones, but a welcomed remedy for individuals with arthritis (osteoporosis).

For frequent visitors to this site, they already understand how CBD works, but for those first timers, here is a quick run down. Around 30 years ago, while scientists were researching how THC – the psychoactive cannabinoid – effects the mind, they discovered the endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system is a very complex cell signaling system, as in how our cells communicate at the molecular level.

There are 2 main receptors, CB1 and CB2. CB1 is primarily found in the central nervous system (which the brain is a part of), while CB2 is found in the immune system. CBD has been found to effect both CB1 and CB2 receptors, meaning that it can decrease inflammation in the brain and immune system. That’s why we see CBD used to cure/heal epilepsy (inflammation in the brain) and to heal auto-immune disorders, or body inflammation.

Can CBD Isolate Also Do The Trick?

Continuing with the research study, the scientists found that “CBD alone makes bones stronger during healing, enhancing the maturation of the collagenous matrix, which provides the basis for new mineralization of bone tissue,” said Dr. Gabet. “After being treated with CBD, the healed bone will be harder to break in the future.”

How did they find this out? The researchers injected one group of rats with CBD alone, while injecting the others with a mixture of CBD and THC. The results found that the group with CBD alone were just as effective as the mixture. Why is this significant? Because even CBD isolates can be just as effective as full spectrum cannabinoids, according to this research. That means athletes, federal employees, and others can take CBD without the risk of being fired for having traces of THC in their system.

While we are big proponents of CBD in a full spectrum cannabinoid formula, some people cannot risk having THC in their system. So, for them there are other alternatives that are just as beneficial.
