What Is CBD?

Pass it on:

What is CBD?

CBD is short for Cannabidiol, which is one of the 113 cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. A lot of research has gone into how exactly CBD works and why it has such broad applications. So, what is CBD, and why do you need to know about its magical healing properties?

The Endocannabinoid System

Ever since the first cannabinoid discovery in 1992 by Professor Mechulaem, scientists have studied the Endocannabinoid System in greater detail. Researchers discovered that cannabinoid receptors are found in all invertebrates. They also discovered that cannabinoid receptors evolved 600 million years ago, while the cannabis plant showed up on scene 25 million years ago.

Cannabinoid receptors are found everywhere in the body. There are two cannabinoid receptors; CB1 receptors, which are found in the brain and the nervous system, and CB2 receptors, which are found in the immune system. Anandamide, discovered in 1992 by professor Mechulaem, was the first endogenous (produced naturally by the body) cannabinoid. It is found in chocolate, is produced by the body during meditation, and is also released during “runner’s high”. This feeling of bliss is where it gets its name from since Ananda means “bliss” in Sanskrit.

Cannabinoids and the Cannabis Plant

The most well-known cannabinoids today are THC and CBD, which are both produced by the Cannabis plant. THC is a psychoactive agent that focuses more on CB1 receptors in the brain, while CBD is non-psychoactive, has strong gene transcription, and regulates the glutamate receptor, i.e. reduces inflammation. CBD also allows the body to keep high levels of Anandamides by inhibiting an enzyme called FAAH, which is known to break down Anandamides.

CBD also cures ailments stemming from neuroinflammation. Some known neurotoxins (elements that cause neuroinflammation) are mercury, Glyphosate and EMF stress. CBD blocks all of these and has an anti-inflammatory effect by stabilizing the Glutamate receptor and other systems resulting in homeostasis.

As for Gene Transcription Modulation, CBD has a much broader effect in turning on genes than THC. Different plant compounds will turn on different sets of genes, and CBD turns on the glutathione system and turns off inflammatory genes, such as cytokines. So, CBD does wonders for pain therapy.

What are the effects of CBD?

CBD is legal in all 50 states and can be used as a nutritional supplement. As previously stated, CBD– just like THC– come from the marijuana plant, but it does not get you high. Below are the physiological effects of CBD:

  • Unlike pharmaceutical drugs, which are designed to fix one specific issue, CBD works to balance your system
  • Central nervous system – at the level of individual cells, every human being has CBD receptors. This system of CBD receptors is called the endocannabinoid system. When CBD bind with our CBD receptors, magic happens. For instance, CBD works with our signaling molecules to naturally reduce inflammation in our central nervous system, and throughout the entire immune system–achieving homeostasis
  • CBD causes a cascade of homeostasis through our entire immune system and our entire central nervous system.

This is important information for anyone living in modern societies today. Our bodies are bombarded with toxins from our environment and from our foods, so everyone is suffering from some kind of inflammation. CBD is a naturally occurring agent that can help put our bodies back into homeostasis. Most diseases are a form of inflammation, whether is it is an immune inflammation (autoimmune diseases, psoriasis) or a brain inflammation (anxiety, epilepsy, PTSD). CBD brings all those systems back into balance, or homeostasis. It is no wonder why epilepsy patients see the results of CBD ingestion immediately and are able to keep episodes away for years.

So, hopefully, we were able to explain what is CBD and why it is so important for people’s overall health. Please support our efforts to educate the masses and share this information. Also, make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and subscribe to your weekly WeedUdpate.
